HARLEY-DAVIDSON PAN AMERICA 1250 LAUNCHED AT RS 16.90 LAKH

In what will come as good news to fans of the brand, Harley-Davidson has restarted its journey in India with the help of Hero MotoCorp. India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer teamed up with one of the most iconic two-wheeler brands in the world to help it continue operating in India and has today announced the launch of the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 in our market, priced at Rs 16.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Additionally, Hero MotoCorp has also revealed prices for several other Harley-Davidson models reintroduced in the Indian market.

The Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 is available in two variants – the standard, which is priced at Rs 16.90 lakh, and the Special, which costs Rs 19.99 lakh. To provide a quick recap, the Pan America 1250 is Harley-Davidson’s first true-blue adventure-tourer. It is symbolic as it represents Harley’s desire to break the mould and venture into spaces it has never explored before, as it aims to turn its fortunes around, having witnessed global sales drop for many years on the trot.

Powering the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 is an all-new Revolution Max 1250 engine, a liquid-cooled V-Twin that makes 150 hp at 9,000 rpm and generates 128 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm, mated to a six-speed transmission with a slipper clutch. It also comes with ride modes including Road, Sport, Rain, Off-Road and Off-Road Plus. Each mode consists of a specific combination of power delivery, engine braking, Cornering Enhanced Antilock Braking System (C-ABS) and Cornering Enhanced Traction Control System (C-TCS) settings.

The Pan America gets fully adjustable Showa suspension at the front and rear. The fork is a 47mm USD unit with 190mm of travel, and the rear mono-shock too has the same amount of travel. The kerb weight of the Pan America 1250 is 242 kg.

Exclusive to the Pan America Special are electronically adjustable semi-active front and rear suspension, a tyre pressure monitoring system, aluminium skid plate, adaptive headlights and adaptive ride height, which lowers the seat height of the motorcycle when it comes to a standstill and tubeless tyres with wire-spoke wheels.

Almost all the motorcycles previously shipped to India as completely built units (CBUs) have made a comeback. The Street range starts at Rs 10.11 lakh for the Harley-Davidson Iron 883 and goes up to Rs 11.75 lakh for the Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight.

Following it are the Cruiser models – the Softail Standard (Rs 15.25 lakh), Street Bob (Rs 15.99 lakh), Fat Bob (Rs 16.75 lakh) and Fat Boy (Rs 20.90 lakh).

Topping the portfolio are the Touring models – the Heritage Classic (Rs 21.49 lakh), Electra Glide Standard (Rs 24.99 lakh), Road King (Rs 26.99 lakh), Street Glide Special (Rs 31.99 lakh) and the Road Glide Special (Rs 34.99 lakh, all prices ex-showroom).

In its statement, Hero MotoCorp has said it is expanding the Harley-Davidson service, parts and accessories business beyond the 12 cities currently covered by its dealers, which include Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Pune, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Kochi, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad and Dehradun. Hero MotoCorp has also previously stated it will ‘develop and sell’ premium motorcycles under the Harley-Davidson banner.

Commenting on the return of Harley-Davidson models to India, Ravi Avalur, Head – Premium Segment Business Unit at Hero MotoCorp, said, “We are excited to open the bookings for the 2021 range of Harley-Davidson motorcycles in India. The line-up is now strengthened with the introduction of the Pan America Adventure Tourer. The 2021 model range appeals to a broader consumer segment and will ensure Harley-Davidson’s leadership in the leisure motorcycling segment.”
