Apple launches new line of MacBook Air, powered by M3 Silicon, starting at Rs 1,14,900

Apple has unveiled its highly anticipated MacBook Air refresh, introducing new 13-inch and 15-inch models powered by the company’s latest M3 chip. This promises a significant performance boost and enhanced capabilities for what’s known as the “world’s most popular Mac.”

The 13-inch MacBook Air with M3 starts at Rs 1,14,900, while it’s priced at Rs 1,04,900 for students. The 15-inch MacBook Air with M3 begins at Rs 1,34,900, with an educational price of Rs 1,24,900. Both models have midnight, starlight, silver, and space grey options. Additionally, the 13-inch MacBook Air with M2, available in the same color choices, now starts at Rs 99,900. For education, this model is priced at Rs. 89,900.

Customers can now order the new MacBook Air with M3, which will be available starting Friday, March 8.

Apple claims that the M3 MacBook Air delivers up to 60 percent faster performance compared to its M1 predecessor and is 13 times faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Air.

The new MacBook Air now supports up to two external displays when the laptop lid is closed. However, with the lid open, users can still only use one external display alongside the built-in screen, similar to the previous generation’s limitations.

“MacBook Air is our most popular and loved Mac, with more customers choosing it over any other laptop. And today, it gets even better with the M3 chip and new capabilities,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

The M3 chip, built using 3-nanometer technology, promises not only faster performance but also improved battery life. Apple claims up to 18 hours of usage on a single charge—a six-hour increase over Intel-based MacBook Air models.

Apple highlights the M3 MacBook Air as the “world’s best consumer laptop for AI,” thanks to its faster and more efficient 16-core Neural Engine, enabling advanced machine learning capabilities, from real-time speech-to-text and translation to visual understanding and accessibility features.

Besides the performance gains, the new MacBook Air retains its signature thin and light design. Its durable aluminum unibody enclosure is available in four colors: midnight, starlight, space grey, and silver.

MacBooks measure 13.6 and 15.3 inches, respectively, and feature a Liquid Retina display with up to 500 nits of brightness and support for 1 billion colors.

Other notable improvements include Wi-Fi 6E support, providing download speeds up to twice as fast as the previous generation, and an AV1 decode engine for more efficient and higher-quality video streaming experiences.

Apple has also emphasized environmental sustainability. The new MacBook Air is the company’s first product made with 50 percent recycled content, including 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure and 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets.
