AI in your fridge, AC, washing machine: Samsung unveils new line of home appliances, powered by AI

Tech companies and home appliance makers are pushing the envelope in a bid to integrate AI into our lives. After AI in smartphones and laptops, we now have AI-powered home appliances like refrigerators, ACs, microwaves, and washing machines.

Samsung has unveiled its latest line-up of home appliances integrated with artificial intelligence.

The South Korean giant showcased a series of innovative home appliances designed to enhance user experience and foster smart living. Among the unveiled products are a refrigerator equipped with AI vision capabilities capable of recognizing over 30 food items and suggesting recipes, an air conditioner featuring remote operation facilitated by geo-fencing technology, a microwave tailored for cooking diet-friendly meals, and a washing machine capable of learning users’ laundry habits and autonomously adjusting its cycles.

These cutting-edge appliances have built-in Wi-Fi, intelligent cameras, and advanced chipsets, enabling seamless integration into smart home ecosystems. Users can conveniently monitor and control these devices through the SmartThings application, which offers additional functionalities such as recommending filter replacements and facilitating professional maintenance services.

The Bixby AI voice assistant powers Samsung’s Bespoke AI appliances and is compatible with other voice assistants, further enhancing user accessibility and convenience.

Moreover, Samsung highlighted the energy-saving capabilities of its AI-infused appliances, with the AI Energy Mode promising up to 10 percent energy savings in refrigerators, up to 20 percent in air conditioners, and up to 70 percent in washing machines.

JB Park, President & CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia, expressed excitement about introducing Bespoke AI, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize Indian households’ lifestyles while contributing to environmental sustainability by reducing energy consumption.

Samsung’s foray into AI-enabled smart home devices has been steadily expanding in recent years, with the company previously showcasing its innovative washing machine and dryer at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year.

With the global launch of these AI-powered appliances, Samsung aims to significantly shift its revenue share from AI home appliances to India. Saurabh Baishakhia, Senior Director of Digital Appliances at Samsung India, disclosed the company’s ambitious target to generate 70 percent of its digital appliances division’s revenue from Bespoke AI products by the end of 2025.
