In a statement given on Twitter, Jio Care, the official support handle of Reliance Jio has confirmed that those who had pre-booked for a Jio phone will receive their phones by Diwali.
The statement also said that the company has started the delivery of the feature phone in a phased manner to avoid any inconvenience. Meanwhile, it has also said the customer will be informed via an SMS about the store where they can pick up their phones from.
The pre-bookings of the Reliance JioPhone had begun from 24 August after the phone was launched at Reliance India Limited’s (RIL) 40th Annual General Meeting (AGM). However, the phone was sent to select beta testers on 15 August. According to a report, Mukesh Ambani had said that phone would be sold at an effective price of zero. However, one has to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs 1,500 on collection of the phone.
After a period of 36 months the users can return the phone and get their security deposit back.
Reliance Jio has aimed that it will sell at least 5 million phones and tap into the feature phone market in India.
The phone supports 22 major languages. It supports voice commands to interface with the phone as well. All the major Jio applications are pre-installed in the handset. These applications include: JioMusic, JioCinema, JioGames, JioKisan, JioPay and JioTV.
With the help of a voice assistant, users will be able to make calls, send messages and play songs.
One interesting feature of this feature phone is that the users can feed emergency contacts in the phone. If, for instance, someone is in distress, they can press the number 5 button and inform their loved ones about their safety. This message would include geolocation data.

This 4G feature phone uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 205 chip. It comes with a 3 MP camera with video recording up to 480p at 30 fps.
