Microsoft has commenced the rollout of the much-anticipated Windows 11 2023 update (version 23H2) for users, bringing over 150 new features to the operating system. Among the key highlights of this update is the introduction of a generative AI-assisted copilot, previously limited to the Edge web browser.
Users currently on Windows 11 22H2 can opt to “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” by navigating to Settings > Windows Update, enabling them to install the latest iteration of Windows 11. The automatic distribution of this update will be progressively implemented over the coming months.
The 2023 update bestows the built-in Photos app with fresh capabilities, including one-click background blur and the ability to remove and replace backgrounds in images through the Paint app, all powered by generative AI technology.
The most prominent feature of the Windows 11 2023 update is the introduction of the new copilot, leveraging OpenAI’s extensive language model GPT-4. The Windows 11 copilot offers access to various generative AI tools, including DALL-E 3, for free.

Microsoft’s built-in Clipchamp app has also been enhanced, enabling users to edit photos and videos with professional-level precision.
Additionally, Microsoft’s mail app, Outlook, undergoes a substantial overhaul with the Windows 11 2023 update. It now offers enhanced support for managing various accounts and assists users in composing clear and concise emails. The update also simplifies creating and restoring Windows backups from the cloud. Furthermore, to bolster security, the Windows 11 23H2 update introduces native passkey support.
