Maruti Suzuki unveils the new e-VITARA, its first battery EV in India, claims to have a range of 500 kms

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has unveiled its much-anticipated first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e-VITARA, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi. This marks a significant step for the automaker as it ventures into the electric vehicle (EV) market in India.

Maruti Suzuki, however, has not revealed any details as to how their EVs will be priced, nor has the automotive company shared a timeline for the official launch and delivery timeline for the vehicle.

A new platform for a new era

The e-VITARA is built on Maruti Suzuki’s new EV platform, HEARTECT-e, which has been designed with three core principles in mind: exceptional strength, structural rigidity, and advanced high-voltage protection. In terms of size, the e-VITARA measures 4,275mm in length, with a 2,700mm wheelbase, 1,640mm in height, and 1,800mm in width. Its flat floor design not only optimises cabin space but also accommodates the high-capacity battery pack, offering both comfort and efficiency.

Sleek design and premium features

The interior of the e-VITARA is equipped with a modern digital cockpit, featuring a twin-deck floating console, a newly designed bespoke steering wheel, and a fixed-glass sunroof. Soft-touch dual-tone materials and multicolored ambient lighting enhance the cabin’s luxurious feel.

A 10.1-inch digital display and a 10.25-inch multi-information display provide easy access to controls and vehicle information. For a premium in-car experience, the e-VITARA also includes wireless connectivity and a high-quality sound system from ‘Infinity by Harman.’.

Comfort is a priority in the e-VITARA, with ventilated front seats and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The rear seats offer a best-in-class seating system with a 40:20:40 split, reclining and sliding functionality, and easy boot access, making it a versatile option for both short trips and long journeys.

Powerful electric powertrain and impressive range

The e-VITARA is powered by a 3-in-1 electric system that integrates the motor, inverter, and transmission. The vehicle offers two battery options, each paired with distinct powertrain configurations. The 49kWh battery powers a front axle-mounted motor, delivering 144hp and 189Nm of torque. For those seeking more power, the 61kWh battery provides a front motor generating 174hp and 189Nm of torque.

For enhanced performance, the larger battery also comes with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, featuring a rear-mounted 65hp motor. This setup delivers a combined output of 184 hp and 300 Nm of torque, offering increased capability. Although Maruti Suzuki hasn’t disclosed exact range figures, the larger 61 kWh battery is expected to offer a range of over 500 km, making it an ideal choice for long-distance travel. The e-VITARA’s advanced Cell-To-Pack technology and thermal management system are designed to ensure optimal performance even in extreme temperature conditions, from -30°C to 60°C.

With the e-VITARA, Maruti Suzuki is positioning itself as a significant player in India’s growing EV market, combining innovative design with advanced electric technology for a greener and more efficient future.
