Lexus has unveiled the all-new TZ, the brand’s first three-row battery electric SUV globally. The new luxury SUV focuses on passenger comfort, cabin space, and refinement. The TZ is positioned above the RZ in the EV lineup. A dedicated EV platform underpins the new three-row SUV and will soon be available with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, offering a 530 km WLTP range with a 95.8 kWh battery pack.
Based on the all-new TNGA platform, the SUV features a reinforced body structure with high-rigidity adhesives, laser screw welding, and aluminum components, delivering improved handling stability, torsional stiffness, and reduced weight. Handling is further enhanced by Dynamic Rear Steering, which improves maneuverability at low speeds and stability at high speeds by steering the rear wheels up to 4 degrees in coordination with the front wheels.
The new TZ features two lithium-ion battery options: a 76.96 kWh and a 95.82 kWh system. The SUV employs a 4WD system with a direct drive. An enhanced body structure ensures better handling stability and a composed ride, complemented by Lexus safety systems.
Lexus has also streamlined charging options. The new 2-in-1 charging ports place AC and DC connectors side by side with a compact motorized sliding cover for convenient charging in tight spaces. The US model features the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port. The TZ supports up to 22 kW AC charging and 150 kW DC fast charging.
Evolved Direct 4WD System
The Direct 4WD system distributes torque between the front and rear motors based on driving conditions for linear acceleration and precise cornering. Torque ratios actively adjust as demand changes; during aggressive acceleration, they shift to 0:100 (front: rear), while during cornering, they vary from 80:20 to 0:100 to optimize handling.
Drivers can choose from five driving modes: Normal, Sport, Eco, Range, and Rear Comfort.
Safety and Convenience Features
Safety features include a front pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, Risk Avoidance Emergency Steer Assist, Intersection Turn Assist, Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Eco Run mode, Lane Tracing Assist, rear pedestrian detection, and front cross-traffic alert.
Interior Updates
The latest-generation Lexus Interface in the Lexus TZ introduces sharper graphics, improved performance, AT&T 5G connectivity, customizable widgets, an upgraded “Hey Lexus” voice assistant, and full-screen navigation on the digital gauge cluster. It also adds EV-focused tools such as EV Routing and EV Range Map, along with Drive Recorder, SiriusXM with 360L, Spotify integration, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
New cabin features include a panoramic roof with a wire-driven sunshade, six ambient lighting themes inspired by Japanese design, a 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, and enhanced quiet climate control with heated seats across all rows. Practical upgrades include a redesigned center console storage system and a removable rear console that makes third-row access easier.
