Shortly after its first sale on September 22, the iPhone 15 Pro series made several headlines over its heating issues. Some users complained that the device became uncomfortably hot to handle, while others even measured the phone’s temperature with thermometers.
However, only half of iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max users have faced this issue, with the other half claiming that their devices were running fine.
Why the phones are heating up?
Speculation arose that these heating problems were linked to its new titanium body, a first for Apple, in the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Nevertheless, Apple has attributed the issue to a bug in iOS 17.
In a statement to CNET, Apple acknowledged that they have identified certain factors that may cause the iPhone 15 to run “warmer than expected.” The tech giant explained that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro may experience initial heating during setup or restoration due to “increased background activity.”
Furthermore, the company mentioned that a bug in iOS 17 and updates from third-party apps could also contribute to the phone’s overheating. Apps like Instagram and Uber are also causing some issues. Apple has assured users that a forthcoming software update will address the iOS 17 bug and resolve the heating problem, with no expected impact on the performance of the iPhone 15 Pro models.
Apple stated to CNET, “The device may feel warmer during the first few days after setting up or restoring the device because of increased background activity. We have also found a bug in iOS 17 that impacts some users and will be addressed in a software update. Another issue involves some recent updates to third-party apps that are causing them to overload the system. We’re working with these app developers on fixes that are in the process of rolling out.”
On titanium frame, changing colours
Previously, Apple had mentioned in a support document that the titanium body of the iPhone 15 Pro might be temporarily affected by the oil from a user’s skin, leading to a change in color. However, this alteration is reversible and not a cause for concern. Apple guided restoring the original appearance of the iPhone 15 Pro, recommending the use of a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Apple also addressed concerns about other iPhones with glass finishes, noting that they might exhibit “material transfer” from objects in contact with the device, which can sometimes resemble scratches. This, too, can typically be removed.
iPhone 15 Pro series pricing in India
In India, the prices of the iPhone 15 Pro have increased compared to the previous year’s iPhone 14 Pro. The device is available in four storage variants, with the 128GB version priced at Rs 1,34,900, the 256GB variant at Rs 1,44,900, the 512GB variant at Rs 1,64,900, and the 1TB variant at Rs 1,84,900. It comes in four color options: black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium.
On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at 256GB for Rs 1,59,900 and then goes for 512GB for Rs 1,79,900, whereas the 1TB unit for Rs 1,99,900.
The iPhone 15 Pro boasts a Grade 5 titanium body, offering enhanced durability and a lighter weight. It features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with the ‘thinnest borders ever’ seen on an iPhone.
For added protection, it includes a ceramic shield on the front. The phone’s edges have been designed to be rounded and smoother for improved grip, and it retains the dynamic island notch from the previous Pro models. Apple has also introduced an action button, which serves more functions than the traditional mute button.
