Imgur has updated its website and application with social networking features. Users can now follow Imgurians by tapping or clicking on a plus icon next to the usernames. Users will receive alerts on viral posts. There is a followers tab in setting now, that allows users to keep track of the accounts that they follow. Profiles do not display a follower count, and the list of followers is not public, unlike Twitter.
There is now a chat functionality as well, with various opportunities to start a conversation. Users can search by usernames in the chat window, dive into chat from a profile, initiate a chat through the comments section. or use the share feature on uploaded content, and send it via chat. A cog icon in the conversation window brings up chat settings, which allows users to block chats from an unwanted account. Of course, there is also an integrated .GIF keyboard.
The account settings have an archive of past messages. On the mobile application, the chat functionality has replaced the messages functionality, and messages are no longer available on the mobile version of the site. User accounts can now be updated from the mobile application. There is a menu to change account settings, where users can modify the username, password, or email address used for registering with the service.
