Earlier this month, WhatsApp finally introduced the payments feature on the platform. The feature essentially allows users to send money to other users via chats in the app. The feature has only been rolled out to 20 million users in India, whereas there are over 400 million WhatsApp users in the country. If you are one of the users who got the feature on their devices in the first run, follow these simple steps to begin sending money via WhatsApp:
How to transfer money via WhatsApp Payments
Step 1:Open WhatsApp on your device
Step 2:Tap on the contact you would like to send the money to.
Step 3:Tap on the attach button in the chat.
Step 4:Choose a payment option.
Step 5:Now, users will be required to enter the amount they would like to send across.
Step 6:Verify your payment with the correct UPI pin
Step 7:After entering the pin, your payment will be processed.
Step 8:Now, you will be redirected to your WhatsApp chat, where you will see the amount you have sent across in a message box.
It is of utmost importance that users do not share their card information or their UPI pin with any user.
WhatsApp had released the new feature for users in India on 6 November. The system makes it easier for people to make payments in a more compact setup. While conversing with a contact on WhatsApp, you will not have to leave the app, open a payments app, and then send money.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) had allowed WhatsApp to roll out the feature on a limited scale only to 20 million Indian users when the total number of users surpasses 400 million in the country. NPCI had also announced that “a cap of 30 percent of the total volume of transactions processed in UPI” will apply to all third-party app providers from 1 January 2021.
Now it remains to be seen when the payment feature gets rolled out to all users.
