Foxconn, Stellantis set up joint R&D centre for designing auto semiconductors in India

SiliconAuto, an automotive technology company backed by Foxconn, has established a research and development (R&D) center in Bengaluru, India. This center is dedicated to designing semiconductor products and developing system-on-chip (SoC) technology specifically for the automotive industry. SiliconAuto is a joint venture formed by Stellantis NV, based in the Netherlands, and Hon Hai Technology Group, commonly known as Foxconn.

SiliconAuto CEO Gene Liu said the establishment of this center reflects SiliconAuto’s commitment to advancing innovation in the automotive sector.

Bengaluru was chosen as the location due to its strong pool of talent and thriving technology ecosystem, which aligns with the company’s vision for a brighter and safer future in transportation.

The Indian team at SiliconAuto is expected to play a crucial role in driving this vision forward.

In related developments, Foxconn’s representative in India highlighted that the R&D center is expected to significantly enhance the company’s ability to develop cutting-edge automotive technologies and solutions.

This includes advancements for Stellantis and the broader automotive industry. Additionally, Foxconn is actively working on establishing an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in India and plans to set up a battery manufacturing unit.

The Bengaluru design center will focus on developing next-generation semiconductor solutions, particularly for electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and connected car technologies. This expansion is seen as a reaffirmation of SiliconAuto’s commitment to India as a crucial talent and technological growth market. The company intends to recruit top engineers and designers to strengthen its team further, contributing to India’s rapidly growing automotive ecosystem.
