Apple’s iOS 18 gives iPhone 15 Pro Max a major boost in AI Neural processing

The recent Geekbench results are a testament to the significant leap in Machine Learning performance of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, particularly with the transition from iOS 17 to iOS 18, even in its beta phase. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, already a standout in its own right, has taken a giant stride with iOS 18, with the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) showcasing truly remarkable gains.

A thread on X/Twitter highlighted these impressive figures, supported by multiple results on Geekbench’s website. With iOS 17.5.1, the iPhone 15 Pro Max scored 6249 on Geekbench for neural engine processing. After updating to iOS 18, the same test yielded a score of 7816, marking a substantial improvement.

While raw scores and specifications don’t always directly translate to real-world performance, these results clearly indicate that iOS 18 optimizes the neural engine cores more effectively than iOS 17. This optimization can enhance various machine learning tasks, potentially leading to faster and more efficient performance in applications that rely heavily on AI and machine learning.

The improvement is even more pronounced in specific text classification tests conducted on Geekbench. In these tests, updating to iOS 18 resulted in a performance boost of up to 1,000 percent, showcasing the dramatic impact of the new operating system on the iPhone’s machine-learning capabilities.

These findings not only highlight the technological prowess of the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iOS 18 update but also underscore Apple’s unwavering commitment to advancing machine learning performance. By optimizing its hardware through software updates, Apple is not just offering enhanced functionality and speed in AI-driven applications, but also setting a new standard in the industry.
