Apple to unveil its AI strategy at WWDC 2024, sets dates for annual developers’ conference

Apple has announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will start on June 10. The tech giant will reveal its highly anticipated artificial intelligence (AI) strategy at this conference.

The Cupertino-based tech giant took to X to disclose the event’s dates on Tuesday, noting that it will run until June 14. While Apple remained tight-lipped about its agenda, sources familiar with the matter and analysts who have been following all recent developments at Apple suggest a significant focus on AI during the presentation.

Following the precedent set since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference will be conducted free of charge via Apple’s website and app for developers. The opening day announcements will occur in person at Apple’s campus in Cupertino, California.

Apple is also expected to introduce significant software updates for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro headset, and smartwatch. The company’s new AI strategy will take center stage with the planned iOS 18 upgrade.

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s marketing executive, hinted at the event’s significance, stating, “It’s going to be Incredible.” This is a clear indication of the focus on AI.

Apple’s AI strategy is projected to encompass a range of proactive features to enhance users’ daily experiences. However, the company does not plan to unveil its generative AI chatbot. Instead, as reported by Bloomberg News, talks are underway with potential partners such as Alphabet Inc.’s Google and OpenAI to provide generative AI services. In China, Apple may be using Baidu to power its AI services.

According to insiders involved in the upgrade process, the iOS 18 update is expected to mark the most ambitious overhaul of the iPhone’s software in its history. Additionally, Apple intends to roll out a minor refresh of the Apple Watch’s software and the first significant update to the operating system powering the Vision Pro headset.

WWDC 2024 will commence on June 10 with Apple’s special keynote at Apple Park. The event will include various activities, such as the State of the Union, the Apple Design Awards, developer sessions, and more. Attendees can also participate in video sessions and engage with Apple designers and engineers, fostering connections within the worldwide developer community.

In addition to iOS 18, Apple is set to unveil updates for other operating systems, including iPadOS 18, VisionOS 2, tvOS 18, macOS 15, and watchOS 11, at WWDC 2024.
