After being rumoured to be working on new battery cases for the 2018 iPhones, Apple has today launched three battery cases, one each for the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and the XS Max. Priced at $129, the cases can be bought from Apple’s online store in both black and white silicon designs.
For those who’ve seen an Apple-made battery case before, the new cases still feature Apple’s distinctive battery hump, but with a more tapered finish this time. Apple on its product pages also claims that these new cases are compatible with Qi-certified chargers. This means that you’ll still be able to wirelessly charge your phone even when the case is on.
Users will be able to see the battery status for the phone and the case displayed on the iPhone lock screen and in Notification Center, similar to the way the status is listed when you are wearing Apple’s AirPods or an Apple Watch.
As per Apple’s tests, the designated talk time for the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR cases will go up to 33, 37 and 39 hours respectively. Internet longevity for the three phones is expected to go up to 21, 20 and 22 hours while video playback is rated to go up 25, 25 and 27 hours.
Apple has started taking orders on the new cases, but the cases themselves aren’t expected to arrive until Friday in the US.
