Apple launches AirTag 2 with better range, louder sound and new sharing feature

Apple has introduced the second-generation AirTag, bringing significant improvements to its tiny tracking device.

The new AirTag 2 offers a more extended range, a louder speaker, enhanced security, and more innovative sharing options, making it easier to find everyday items like keys, wallets, and luggage. Before we delve into the features and specs of the new AirTag, let’s take a look at the pricing in India.

Apple AirTag 2: Price and availability in India

The new Apple AirTag 2 is now available to order on apple.com and through the Apple Store app, with in-store availability beginning later this week at Apple Store locations and authorised resellers.

The AirTag is priced at Rs 3,790 for a single pack and Rs 12,900 for a four-pack. To complement it, Apple’s FineWoven Key Ring, explicitly designed for the AirTag, is available in fox orange, midnight purple, navy, moss, and black, priced at Rs 3,900.

The AirTag 2 requires a compatible iPhone running iOS 26 or later or an iPad with iPadOS 26 or later. Users must have an Apple Account, be signed into iCloud, and have Find My enabled to access all features.

Apple AirTag 2: Features

The AirTag 2 is powered by Apple’s new second-generation ultra-wideband chip, the same one used in the latest iPhone 17 models and Apple Watch Ultra 3. This chip gives the device up to 50 per cent more range and more precise location tracking, helping users find lost items faster and from farther away.

For the first time, users can also use Precise Search directly on compatible Apple Watches. That means you can now track your misplaced bag or keys right from your wrist with haptic feedback, visual cues, and sound cues.

The built-in speaker has been redesigned as well. It’s now 50 per cent louder and can be heard twice as far, making it easier to locate items in busy or noisy places. A new signal tone has also been added to help users identify the alert more easily.

Apple has also added a new feature called “Share Object Location.” This lets users temporarily share the location of a tagged item with trusted people or organisations. For example, if your suitcase goes missing during travel, you can securely share its location with the airline to help recover it faster. Apple says it is already working with over 50 airlines to use this feature.

The “Find My” network remains at the heart of the AirTag system. It uses millions of Apple devices worldwide to locate lost items anonymously and securely. Apple has also enhanced safety with end-to-end encryption, rotating Bluetooth identifiers, and cross-platform tracking alerts, all designed to prevent misuse and unwanted tracking.

The new Precision Finding feature on Apple Watch works with Apple Watch Series 9 or later, including the Apple Watch Ultra 2, running watchOS 26.2.1 or newer. These requirements ensure a seamless, accurate tracking experience across Apple’s ecosystem, allowing users to locate their belongings effortlessly from any device.

Eco-friendly design

Apple continues to focus on sustainability with the AirTag 2. The device’s housing is made from 85 per cent recycled plastic, the magnets use 100 per cent recycled rare earth elements, and the packaging is fully fibre-based. Despite the internal upgrades, the AirTag 2 remains compatible with existing accessories, helping users reuse what they already own.

The Apple AirTag 2 combines better technology, stronger privacy features, and a more eco-friendly design, reinforcing its place as a practical and reliable part of the Apple ecosystem for everyday life.
